Poem: Staring Contest

This was a solo project that was shelved in the interests of bringing the prototype haiku to life. With that done, I had some time finally to complete this. Note that there is an "easter egg" hidden somewhere in the middle of the poem (a hidden button that gives more info on the poem).

 Re: Poem: Staring Contest
by far this is my favorite piece i've seen on here yet. aside from the being being great (which i thought it was), the animation, and the way words were characters not only kept my attention, it put it in a stranglehold.

great, great stuff. if this is the sign of things to come, i'm definetely looking forward to seeing more.

I can't find the easter egg, I've gone through several times. I'd like to know what it was, but very VERY nicely done. *applauds loudly in the audiance*

Hint #1 for the easter egg:

It is hidden behind a word that changes both spelling and definition in the middle of a sentence.

Is the easter egg for "bated" to "baited"?

that was awesome, i was wondering if there was a written out version of the poem, or just a text version. i want to look at it closer. i guess i could write it out manually.

One of the few flash animations I find as worth remembering, contrasted to gigabytes of stuff I watch, smile at and forget 30 seconds later. I'm really impressed.

I would liek to know the writer of this poem. I just wanna know if I can get this poem written out somewhere to use it for a monologue. I'm an actor and I think this would be an awesome monologue. IM me as Wolfbaine123. I'd really like to use this with your permission.

This was a beautifully done piece of work. The words and animation alike kept my attention through the whole thing. The reader also has a great voice for just this sort of thing.

Thank you all for the kind words. I have added an article here with the original poem as per the requests.

The poem may be performed live, recorded, or reprinted for non-commercial purposes if proper credit (Jason M. Heim) and a mention/listing/link to coloredchalk.com are included.

If you would like to host a copy of the flash file, please contact me for permission first so that I can make an authorized copy that indicates you have permission to host it.

WOW. Just... WOW. That poem, along with the *beautiful* animation and narration (and accompanying emotion), sent chill after chill down my spine.

If I was still in the drama scene, I'd use it as a monologue in a heartbeat.

Awesome, it's really great. the poem is just great. i had to watch it a few times to really pick up on the meaning, but i enjoyed it each time i watched it. i have a question for you though. What type of flash did you use? i'm wondering cause i don't have any such product to make flash movies (only to watch them). really great movie, and startlingly good poem!

Hey... Very interesting poem, dude. I saw in on Albino Black Sheep... I loved the way it was structured, and I love how it sounded read aloud...

But don't mean to sound very very dumb or anything but I can't figure out what it means... what does it mean??

This was great! I saw it over on Albionblacksheep.com and was enchanted by how you chose to project your poem. You really did bring it to life with the words in ways that it might not have done on paper. I really hope this method catches on because your the first I've seen to do it this way. Thank you for the wonderful presentation and poem!

Very good! You spelled 'bated' right! yea! But it should be 'whom' instead of 'who'.

Very powerful. Bravo

Wow. Masterful hybrid of motion and text. Brings a whole new context to the idea of "animation"... Great job.
